For Icebreaker

The Swedish Maritime Administration's icebreakers play a crucial role in keeping maritime traffic moving during the winter half-year. Through icebreaker assistance, we ensure that commercial shipping can navigate even under difficult ice conditions in our fairways.

Responsibilities

As a Second Officer aboard an icebreaker, your main duties involve navigation and maneuvering under the command of the Master and the Chief Officer on your watch. The role also includes some administrative tasks, primarily within the ISM/SMS framework. The onboard service period is 2 weeks.

You will be employed by the Swedish Maritime Administration's Shipping Company, which means you may serve on various vessels within the fleet.

Who are you?

To be considered for the role of Second Officer, you must have:

  • Master Mariner Class V certificate
  • Certificate for Basic Safety Training
  • Valid medical certificate for seafarers
  • Certificate for Basic Medical Care
  • Certificate for Advanced Fire Fighting
  • GOC (General Officer of the Watch)
  • Good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both verbally and in writing

The following are considered meritorious:

  • Experience working in icebreaker operations
  • Qualification for Master Mariner Class II or higher
  • Ice Endorsement certificate issued by the Swedish Maritime Administration
  • Certificate for Lifeboat and Fast Rescue Boat
  • Certificate for Fast Rescue Craft
  • Experience in ship maneuvering

How and when?

This recruitment concerns a permanent position, expected to be filled as soon as possible or by agreement.

Interviews will be held via Skype during weeks 18-20.

The Swedish Maritime Administration may apply a six-month probationary period.

The position may involve wartime deployment at the Swedish Maritime Administration.

The position may require Swedish citizenship. A security clearance with a background check may be conducted before a job offer is made.
